Tank Requirements & Local Care Tips
-
Care Level: Beginner (Famously rugged, making them fantastic for first-time fishkeepers)
-
Minimum Tank Size: 10 to 15 Gallons (Must be kept in schools of 6 or more to encourage confidence and spectacular male flaring displays)
-
Water Temperature: 16°C to 24°C (A temperate species that deeply appreciates being kept in the coolest room of the house)
-
Temperament: Extremely Peaceful (An ideal companion for dwarf shrimp, neon tetras, corydoras, and other gentle nano fish)
Bacolod Hobbyist Tip: Because White Clouds are historically cold-water mountain fish, they can easily overheat during peak summer heatwaves here in Bacolod if left in a poorly ventilated room. High temperatures above 27°C for prolonged periods can stress them out and fade their brilliant red fins.
To keep them thriving like a pro, place their tank away from direct sunlight, consider using a simple aquarium cooling fan to lower the surface water temperature, and ensure excellent oxygenation with an air stone or a strong hang-on-back filter.
Because they are completely unbothered by a lack of an aquarium heater, they are also a top-tier choice for indoor desktop nano tanks and covered outdoor porch ponds! They are enthusiastic surface feeders that love premium micro-pellets, crushed flakes, and live baby brine shrimp.
