Quick Overview The Albino Cardinal Tetra is a premium, selectively bred color variation of the world-famous Cardinal Tetra (Paracheirodon axelrodi). Stripped of its dark melanin pigments, this rare morph replaces the traditional deep blue and dark red with a luminous, semi-translucent cream body, bright pink eyes, and a softer, pastel crimson belly. What makes them truly magical is that they completely retain their signature, highly reflective electric-blue neon stripe. As they school tightly together, they create a soft, glowing, pearlescent effect across the middle water column that looks absolutely spectacular.
Tank Requirements & Local Care Tips
-
Care Level: Intermediate (Appreciates an established tank and stable water chemistry)
-
Minimum Tank Size: 15 Gallons (Must be kept in schools of 6 or more; the larger the school, the more confident they become and the tighter they will swim together)
-
Water Temperature: 24°C to 29°C (Perfectly suited for our local tropical climate)
-
Temperament: Peaceful (An excellent community fish that pairs beautifully with other nano tetras, rasboras, and dwarf shrimp)
Bacolod Hobbyist Tip: Because these are true albinos, their pink eyes are much more sensitive to harsh, intense aquarium lights than standard Cardinal Tetras. To make them feel secure and encourage them to show off their best colors, provide plenty of shaded areas using driftwood structures, tall live plants, or floating plants like Amazon Frogbit to diffuse the light.
To maximize their unique pastel coloration, house them against a dark background with dark aquasoil or sand. They are delicate mid-water feeders that thrive on high-quality micro-pellets, crushed flakes, and live baby brine shrimp.
