Tank Requirements & Local Care Tips
-
Care Level: Beginner to Intermediate (Highly adaptable once fully acclimated)
-
Minimum Tank Size: 15 Gallons (Because they are exceptionally fast, active, and playful swimmers, they require horizontal swimming space; must be kept in schools of 6 or more)
-
Water Temperature: 20°C to 26°C (Appreciates good oxygenation in warmer weather)
-
Temperament: Peaceful but highly energetic (Excellent for community tanks with active tetras, rasboras, and bottom-dwelling Corydoras; keep a ratio of 1 male to 2-3 females to avoid over-stressing them)
Bacolod Hobbyist Tip: In nature, Signifer Rainbowfish are often found in tidal creeks and mangrove estuaries, meaning they are incredibly adaptable to a wide range of water parameters. They thrive beautifully in hard, alkaline water, which makes them an outstanding match for much of our local tap water here in Bacolod!
Because they are hyper-active surface and midwater dwellers, they have a fast metabolism and need to be fed high-quality, easily accessible floating micro-pellets or crushed flakes multiple times a day. They are also proficient jumpers when excited or displaying, so a tight-fitting lid or mesh top is highly recommended to keep them safe.
