Quick Overview
The Red Neocaridina Shrimp (Neocaridina davidi), famously known as the Cherry Shrimp, is the ultimate gateway crustacean for freshwater aquarists. Selectively bred from wild-type dwarf shrimp in Taiwan, these striking invertebrates come in a brilliant, opaque crimson red. They are constantly active, gently grazing on algae and biofilm all day long. Because they are incredibly peaceful and highly adaptable, they make the perfect additions to planted nano tanks and peaceful community setups.
Tank Requirements & Local Care Tips
-
Care Level: Beginner (Extremely hardy and forgiving)
-
Minimum Tank Size: 5 Gallons (They have an extremely low bioload)
-
Water Temperature: 18°C to 28°C
-
Temperament: Extremely Peaceful (Keep with other nano fish like Pygmy Corydoras or Celestial Pearl Danios; larger fish will eat them)
-
Bacolod Hobbyist Tip: Neocaridina shrimp actually prefer slightly harder water to properly molt their exoskeletons, meaning Bacolod’s local tap water is generally an excellent starting point compared to the ultra-soft water required for Caridina shrimp. However, they absolutely require a mature, cycled tank with plenty of biofilm and live plants. Stop by our shop to grab high-quality aquasoil, mosses (like Java or Christmas moss), and specialized calcium-rich shrimp pellets to keep your new colony breeding and their colors incredibly vibrant!
