Quick Overview

The Pygmy Corydoras (Corydoras pygmaeus) is a massive favorite in the nano-aquarium hobby. Unlike most larger Corydoras that stay strictly glued to the substrate, Pygmy Cories uniquely hover and dart together in tight schools through the middle of the water column. Maxing out at barely over an inch in length, their metallic silver bodies and bold black horizontal stripes make them a striking and highly entertaining addition to any peaceful community tank.

Tank Requirements & Local Care Tips

  • Care Level: Beginner to Intermediate

  • Minimum Tank Size: 10 Gallons (Must be kept in schools of at least 6, though 10+ is highly recommended)

  • Water Temperature: 22°C to 26°C

  • Temperament: Extremely Peaceful (Ideal for nano fish and dwarf shrimp)

  • Bacolod Hobbyist Tip: Because of their delicate sensory barbels, Pygmy Cories absolutely require a soft, fine sand substrate—rough gravel can damage their mouths! They also thrive in heavily planted tanks with plenty of hiding spots. Stop by our shop here in Bacolod to check out our premium aquatic sand, live foreground plants, and locally bred Neocaridina shrimp that make the perfect tank mates for your new Pygmy Cories.
