Quick Overview
The Lemon Bristlenose Pleco (often sold as the Blue Eye Lemon Bristlenose or L144) is one of the most highly prized suckermouth catfish in the aquarium hobby. Unlike the massive Common Pleco that quickly outgrows most home aquariums, the Lemon Bristlenose is a dwarf species that maxes out at just 4 to 5 inches. Famous for their striking, solid yellow bodies and piercing blue eyes, the males develop a fascinating set of fleshy “bristles” on their snouts as they mature. They are peaceful, incredibly hardy, and absolutely relentless when it comes to clearing soft algae off your aquarium glass and hardscape.

Bacolod Hobbyist Tip: While they do a fantastic job eating algae in your tank, a purely algae-based diet is not enough to keep them healthy! You must supplement their diet. We highly recommend feeding them high-quality sinking algae wafers and occasionally treating them to fresh, locally available blanched vegetables like zucchini or cucumber. Additionally, Bristlenose Plecos require real driftwood in their tank to aid in their digestion. Drop by our Bacolod pet shop to pick out the perfect piece of Mopani or Spider Wood for your tank, along with a healthy Lemon Bristlenose!
