Quick Overview The Sterbai Corydoras (Corydoras sterbai), native to the warm river basins of central Brazil, is widely considered one of the most beautiful and distinct species in the entire Corydoras genus. They feature a striking, high-contrast coloration consisting of dark bodies adorned with intricate, maze-like white spots that transition into horizontal stripes along their tails. Their most defining feature, however, is the bright, vibrant neon-orange coloration on their pectoral and ventral fins. These highly social, active catfish spend their days playfully group-foraging across the aquarium floor, bringing incredible contrast to any aquascape.

Tank Requirements & Local Care Tips

  • Care Level: Beginner (Very hardy and adaptable once acclimated)

  • Minimum Tank Size: 20 Gallons (Must be kept in schools of 6 or more to prevent stress and encourage their playful, confident schooling behavior)

  • Water Temperature: 24°C to 28°C (An exceptionally heat-tolerant cory species)

  • Temperament: Extremely Peaceful (The ultimate community tank mate for Tetras, Discus, Guppies, Angelfish, and Dwarf Shrimp)

Bacolod Hobbyist Tip: One of the main reasons professional aquascapers choose Sterbai Corydoras over other cory species is their incredible tolerance for warmer water. While standard cories can easily get stressed by tropical heatwaves, Sterbais thrive beautifully in warmer conditions, making them the absolute best bottom-cleaning choice for high-temperature tanks (like Discus or German Blue Ram setups) and our warm Bacolod climate.

To keep them healthy, ensure your tank uses a soft, fine sand substrate. Rough, sharp gravel will quickly erode their sensitive sensory barbels (whiskers), making them prone to infections. Stop by our shop today to pick up premium sinking catfish wafers, smooth aquarium sand, and a gorgeous, healthy school of Sterbai Corydoras!
