Quick Overview The Red Lizard Whiptail Catfish (Rineloricaria sp. L010A) is an absolute showstopper and a true curiosity in the freshwater hobby. Believed to be an entirely man-made or selectively bred color variant originating from South American whiptails, this species sports a spectacular, rich brick-red to bright orange hue. Characterized by a highly elongated, heavily armored, and flattened body that tapers into a long, whip-like tail fin, they look like miniature underwater dragons. Reaching a maximum length of about 4 to 4.5 inches, they are incredibly gentle and spend their time grazing peacefully on driftwood, glass, and leaves.

Bacolod Hobbyist Tip: While Red Lizard Whiptails are excellent at grazing on organic biofilm and soft algae, they are exceptionally docile and slow-moving. If they are housed with aggressive, fast-eating bottom-dwellers like large loaches or highly active Corydoras, they will easily get outcompeted for food and can slowly starve.
To ensure they thrive here in Bacolod, make sure to target-feed them after the lights go out or use a feeding tube to drop food directly in front of them. They absolutely love fresh blanched zucchini, cucumber slices, and premium sinking spirulina wafers. Additionally, adding natural driftwood to the tank is essential, as they rely on it for digestion and security.
