Quick Overview The Albino Rummynose Tetra (Hemigrammus bleheri var. “Albino”) is a premium, selectively bred color variation of the world’s greatest schooling fish. Stripped entirely of dark melanin pigments, this rare morph replaces the traditional silver body with a luminous, semi-translucent cream-to-peach flesh tone and striking ruby-red eyes. What makes them an absolute showstopper is how their signature traits adapt: their “rummy” face fires up into a glowing, fluorescent pinkish-red, while the classic black-and-white striped tail shifts into a subtle, ghost-like pastel pattern. They completely retain the legendary, military-tight schooling behavior that makes the species famous.

Tank Requirements & Local Care Tips

  • Care Level: Intermediate (Thrives best in an established, fully cycled aquarium with stable water chemistry)

  • Minimum Tank Size: 20 Gallons (As hyper-active, streamlined horizontal swimmers, they need ample open space; must be kept in schools of 6 to 10 minimum to prevent stress)

  • Water Temperature: 24°C to 28°C (Perfectly adapted to warmer tropical conditions, making them ideal tank mates for Discus or Angelfish)

  • Temperament: Peaceful (An exceptionally gentle community resident that will never bother other nano fish or dwarf shrimp)

Bacolod Hobbyist Tip: Because these are true albinos, their red eyes are significantly more sensitive to bright, intense aquarium lights than standard Rummynoses. To keep them completely stress-free and confident here in Bacolod, we highly recommend adding floating plants like Salvinia or Amazon Frogbit to diffuse the light, alongside driftwood roots to create shaded pockets.

Like all Rummynoses, they serve as a fantastic visual water-quality check. When your water parameters are pristine, their faces will glow a vibrant, intense pinkish-red. If they are stressed or if there is a sudden parameter shift in our warm weather, their faces will instantly turn a pale, washed-out white, giving you an immediate cue to check your filtration!

Drop by our Bacolod pet shop today to pick up premium water conditioning treatments, floating aquatic plants, and a breathtaking, tight-schooling group of rare Albino Rummynose Tetras!
