Quick Overview
The Celestial Pearl Danio (Danio margaritatus), famously known in the hobby as the Galaxy Rasbora, is one of the most beautiful and sought-after nano fish in the world. Originally discovered in the shallow, vegetated ponds of Myanmar, they look like miniature brook trout. Males display a stunning deep midnight-blue body covered in pearly golden spots, contrasted by striking bright red and black striped fins. While slightly shy by nature, a healthy school darting through a well-planted aquascape is a truly spectacular sight.
Tank Requirements & Local Care Tips
-
Care Level: Intermediate
-
Minimum Tank Size: 10 Gallons (Must be kept in schools of at least 6, though 10+ is highly recommended to reduce shyness)
-
Water Temperature: 22°C to 26°C (Prefers cooler water)
-
Temperament: Peaceful but shy (Ideal for nano setups with dwarf shrimp, Pygmy Corydoras, and other tiny, docile fish)
-
Bacolod Hobbyist Tip: Because CPDs naturally come from cooler spring-fed pools, they do not tolerate extreme heat well. In Bacolod’s tropical climate, keep their tank in a cool, well-ventilated room or use a small aquarium cooling fan. They are also notoriously shy if kept in bare tanks—they absolutely require dense live plants (like Java Moss or Stem plants) and floating cover to feel safe enough to swim in the open. Stop by our shop for high-quality nano pellets, live plants, and healthy, locally acclimated Celestial Pearl Danios!
